How to get Credit Report in Massachusetts
Massachusetts consumers are at liberty to receive a free printout of their consumer credit report each year. Under federal law, all three of the national credit bureaus (Experian®, TransUnion and Equifax®) must provide consumers one copy annually of their credit report. Massachuesetts residents can receive this by going to www.annualcreditreport.com, or by calling 1-877-322-8228.
Consumers will not receive reports that contain their actual credit rating, but the reports will provide access to what has or has not been reported to the agencies. In order to gain access to credit scores, a small fee is required by each of the reporting agencies.
Individual Credit Report in Massachusetts
Individuals in Massachusetts may have access to their reports, free of charge, on a yearly basis. The Massachusetts Attorney General has been proactive about educating all consumers of their rights to obtain copies of their credit reports. This allows consumers to ensure that all information being reported is correct and current, allows for the ability to dispute in incorrect detail and ultimately lead to a more widespread awareness of how to prevent identity theft.
Massachusetts Company Credit Check
In order for a business to know or check their business credit, they must be registered with one or more of the four leading business credit reporting bureaus. Experian Business, Dun & Bradstreet, Equifax Business, or Business Credit USA are able to provide and access a business credit score, for members. In order for a company or business to obtain access to its own credit score, it must have registered and paid the annual membership fees with one or more of the above listed providers. A score ranging from 70-100 indicates a good credit standing, while below 70 should be checked into for late pays or high credit lines.
